Kayaking on La Palma
La Palma from the water
A kayak reveals a side of La Palma that is difficult to appreciate from land: steep cliffs, dark lava shores, small coves and sea caves. Guided outings combine gentle exercise with an unhurried view of the island and, depending on the tour, may also suit visitors with little paddling experience.
Lava cliffs, coves and sea caves
The departure point and route always depend on the operator, wind, swell and the group's experience. The rugged west and north-west coast is particularly appealing for its caves and volcanic formations. The Tajogaite eruption changed part of the western shoreline, so older route descriptions should not be relied upon: always confirm the current meeting point and itinerary before setting out.
Guided tour to Cueva Bonita
La Palma Outdoor currently offers a guided trip from PorĂs de Candelaria on the Tijarafe coast to Cueva Bonita. The route passes cliffs, small coves and natural seawater pools. Entry into the cave depends on the sea conditions on the day.
Check the meeting point, requirements and availability directly with La Palma Outdoor. We deliberately avoid listing prices or fixed departure days because they may change.
Before paddling
When booking, be honest about swimming ability and any physical limitations. Ask about the minimum age, difficulty and experience required. A guided outing should include a life jacket and safety briefing; sun protection, drinking water and secure water shoes are also sensible.
Atlantic wind and swell can change quickly. Always follow the guide's instructions and accept a changed route or cancellation when conditions are unsafe. For a first experience, a guided trip is a better choice than paddling independently in unfamiliar coastal waters.
